The School Leadership Academy (SLA) came into existence in December, 2018 in Telangana as one of the academic units of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and as an extended arm of the National Centre for School Leadership (NCSL), National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration. The academy intends to build and enhance the capacity of school heads on a long term and continuous basis. Various activities have been undertaken by the SLA to strengthen the School Heads in multiple spheres of professional and organisational development. The training of School Heads has been conducted at both the state and district levels to enhance leadership capabilities. At the state level, SLA-SCERT/SSA trained School Heads as State Resource Group members (SRGs) through the School Leadership Development Programme. At the district level, secondary-level School Heads were trained across 31 districts. During Covid-19 pandemic, all 33 District Educational Officers took initiatives in organizing webinars at district level for School Heads on school leadership & management and ICT.The Online Certificate Programme on School Leadership and Management for the School Heads has also been made available in Telugu. SLA has undertaken the translation of the resource materials. The SLA has documented exemplary practices of School Heads, publishing success stories in various editions, such as “Transformation of Schools into Vibrant Learning Hubs”, “Forerunners”, “Rise and Shine - Insights of New Age School Leaders”, and “Change and Beyond - Marching Ahead”. For wider dissemination of the activities of SLA- SCERT Telangana, an official YouTube channel has been launched in December 2020 and being updated regularly with a variety of content like videos of best school practices, talks and webinars. The SLA is taking lead in publication of bimonthly online magazine ‘Edusure’ for the Department of School Education, Telangana in collating the contents and editing. The SLA has developed many modules on School Leadership in Telugu on topics ranging from Innovations in Teaching Learning Process, Inclusion in Education, Team Building, Cyber Security, Health Education and Stress Management. The SLA is working closely with other departments of SCERT like planning department, ET department in organizing webinars of the School Heads and teachers on ICT, mental wellbeing, Covid-19 responsive behaviour, readiness & wash programme. The SLA has collaborated with the CLIx project, TISS, Mumbai and organized programmes for School Heads on ICT and Use of Technology for School Operations Management & Teaching and Learning Facilitation. In association with Save the Children & Women Welfare and Child Development, the SLA took part in the celebration of Child Rights Week (UNCRC) in virtual mode, where it organized a series of talks on curricular and child rights issues.
